Seminar Program
Porcelain doll making is a fun and enjoyable hobby. One of the best things about this hobby is the ability to share in the enjoyment of making the dolls with others who are as interested in it as you are. It is this sharing that is the basis of the Doll Artisan Guild School of Dollmaking Seminar Programs. Whether you are interested in the historically correct aspect of reproducing the antique dolls, or the freedoms allowed in reproducing the modern dolls, there will be a seminar that will provide you with interest and a challenge. All the while, you will be enjoying the company of other students as interested as you are in completing beautiful dolls and learning more about the art.
The Doll Artisan Guild (D.A.G.) seminar program provides continuing and higher education for porcelain doll makers through the Doll Artisan Guild School of Dollmaking (DAGSD), the oldest and largest doll making school in the world. It is the foremost school of its kind, dedicated exclusively to the advancement, enjoyment and education of porcelain doll makers. The program offers an exciting array of seminars providing instruction in making reproductions of both modern and antique dolls.
The basics of doll making are taught through the Beautiful Doll and Apprentice Seminars (Level 1). When you have completed the Level 1 seminars you will have acquired the skills necessary to advance to specialty seminars (Level II and Level III). Each seminar or level completed entitles you to certificates, medallions, or diplomas for each title earned. Higher titles such as Master of Dollmaking, Grand Master of Dollmaking and Doctor of Dollmaking are awarded at commencement ceremonies during D.A.G. events.
For each day of specialty seminar attended, you earn one point toward the higher titles. For a three-day specialty seminar you earn three points, but for any seminar the maximum is three points, even if the duration exceeds three days. No points are earned for One Doll One Day, Apprentice, and Beautiful Doll seminars. Repeat seminars do not qualify for points.
Only Doll Artisan Guild members receive attendance certificates and credits. Non-members may attend seminars but will not receive certificates or credits.
Only Seeley and Modern Doll Art Molds & Products are used in DAGSD seminars.
We also offer specialized individual seminar programs. These programs can be tailored to the individual student's needs. Our individual seminars can be for your DAGSD program or for that special doll you have always wanted to make.
Some things you should know about taking seminars:
All seminars will be filled in the order in which deposits are received. All seminars are limited to 10 students, so be sure to send your deposit in early so as to avoid disappointment. We are sorry, but we cannot hold space in any seminar without a deposit.
As supplies must be ordered well in advance, deposits cannot be refunded if you cancel later than 35 days prior to the seminar.
Students who enroll late (less than 30 days prior to the seminar) are always welcome, subject to space availability, and we will make every effort to attempt to have the necessary supplies on hand for you. However, those who enroll late should be aware that we cannot always guarantee to have sufficient supplies in time for the seminar. All supplies which are included in the seminar cost will be provided, but items such as bodies and glass eyes, may not be available until after the seminar date for late entrants.
Deposit amounts vary, but the rule of thumb is 40% of the cost of the seminar.
Classes which fail to meet the minimum number of students required are subject to cancellation. Notice of cancellation will be given to the student and the full deposit will be refunded.
Payment Options:
Installment Pre-Payment: Budgeting the cost of your seminar over a period of time always makes it easier to afford a seminar. We will accept pre-payments in any amount you wish to make. Pre-payments can be made by check or money order. If a refund is required, it will be in accordance with our policy. Pre-payment schedules are determined by the student with the exception that the deposit amount must be prepaid by the due date.
