Oriental Bru Jne 7 With Slanted Brows
PAINTING NOTES: The eyelashes on all of these dolls are beautifully painted. As you can see from the comparison of the photos, there are some differences in the painting, but this is more attributable to the style of the painters and time variations than to the intention of the manufacturer to have different features painted on the dolls. The number of the head also indicates that the Oriental Brus are smaller than the Bru Jne 13. This would also account for variances in the painting details. It is possible that the features of the Oriental Bru 8 were painted prior to the decision to make the doll into an ethnic doll. Having chosen a particular head, it would be a simple matter for the maker to apply an all-over wash to provide the appropriate skin color. It is speculated by the experts in the field that the Oriental Bru was more a "special order" doll than a regularly stocked item. It is also interesting to note that the eyelashes of the more traditionally painted Oriental Bru are more consistent in appearance to the Bru 13, while the lashes on the Slanted Brow Bru have a more "flyaway" tendency similar to the brows.
To paint the Oriental Bru eyelashes, you would follow the same basic procedure as for the Bru Jne 13. The strokes are slightly tapered from the rim of the eye out to the end. This is achieved by making a small dot of paint on the inner edge of the eye rim and then taking your brush out and putting just the tip of the brush into the drop of paint resting on the rim of the eye. You then pull the paint out to the edge of the eyelash. As your paint is used up, the lash becomes thinner and ends with a deliberate stop at the exact length desired. The spacing is very regular and the slant is fairly extreme.
The shadow brow is visible under the strokes and is painted prior to painting the individual strokes.
