FIRE: (Cone 018)
1.
OVERALL WASH
-
SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: 1 Pt. Bisq Tone #1000 and Bisq Tone #3; Area
Medium; Water; Large Filbert Brush; Large China Mop; Super Doll Sponges
-
TECHNIQUE:
Before applying color, condition all pieces with Area Medium.
Take care to get into all the small crevices. Mix 1 Pt. BisqTone
#1000, 1 Pt. Bisq Tone #3 with Area Medium. Start applying the
paint to the face with the Super Doll Sponge. Apply
paint generously to the front facial area--nose, mouth, eye sockets, chin,
etc. Spread the paint into depressions such as nostrils, dimples,
corner of mouth, eyes, ears, etc., using Large Filbert Shader.
Continue to spread paint over entire head moving the sponge in a circular
motions and pulling the paint from the front of the head all around to the
back. Add more paint as required to cover the entire head with a
smooth coat of paint. Using a fresh sponge, work the paint over the
head, smoothing it out and being sure to make the color even.
When you are satisfied with the even application of your paint, lightly
and quickly buss it with the Large China Mop to smooth and
polish your piece.
NOTE:
Please click on the button to view a full face view of the AT. This is
the doll we will be finishing in this seminar.
The popup window can be
closed after each detail is painted as each section has a link to the picture
required for the area being discussed. However, if you do not close the
individual windows, you can return to them by clicking on the buttons on your
task bar to bring each window to the front of your screen as you need
it. Each time you click on a button, a new window will open; so if you
already have the feature open, use the task bar button rather than the popup
window button. This will avoid reopening the same window several times.
After a few times of using the technique sheets, you will find which method is
more suitable to your needs and your computer. You may want to leave the
full face picture open and minimized as it takes slightly longer to reload
than the other pictures. All of the windows can be resized to suit the
size of your workspace on your computer.

SECOND FIRING: (Cone 018)
1. LASHES
AND UPPER RIM
-
SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: 2
Parts Satin Black;
1 Part Satin White; Line Medium; Water; Eyeliner Brush #1
-
TECHNIQUE:
Mix Satin Black, Satin White
and Line Medium to a thick, creamy consistency.
Paint lashes to a translucent, but very dark charcoal color. Lashes
are sharply slanted to the outside corners, with very regular
spacing. The eyes are lined with a fine black line all around the
inner edge. Rest the side of your eyelash brush on the rim and run
it around the edge. Take care to apply paint lightly, not in
globs.
2.
LIPS, NOSE & EYE DOTS
-
SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: Rose Red Gloss;
Line Medium;
Medium Area Brush
-
TECHNIQUE:
Mix China Paint and Medium to a creamy
consistency. Paint a smooth,
light application of paint on the lips, and pain the inner nose dots, as shown on
the photo below. Nose Dots are painted in two firings.
This firing is the light undercoat which covers the entire nostril
area. The photo shown here is of the finished antique doll with both
firings shown, so you must study the picture and note the two different
areas of color. The same principle applies to the lips. In
this firing you are basically laying out the base color and pattern for
the shape of the lips and inner nostrils. The shading is completed
in subsequent firings. Paint very light eye dots as seen in photo.
3.
UNDER BROW
-
TECHNIQUE: Mix China Paint and Medium to a creamy consistency.
Paint a smooth, light stroke on brow ridge.
Smooth with Dry Shader
Brush so that the edges are not sharp.
Study the photo of
the antique doll's eyebrows. You
can see, if you look carefully, just exactly where the under or
"shadow" brow fills in the color under the strokes.
Remember that the strokes of the brow will extend beyond the under
brow both at the front and the back of the under brow stroke, so don't
make it too long.
4. CHEEKS
-
SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: Cheek Blush Cake; Area
Medium; Small China Mop; Super Doll Sponge or Stippler Brush
-
TECHNIQUE: Apply Area Medium to the cheek and
beyond. Carefully apply the cheek color with clean sponge or Stippler.
Polish it with the Small China Mop, blending the
edges so as to prevent "stop lines". Refer to the full
photo in the popup window for a picture of the full face of
the doll. This will show you where to place the cheek color.

THIRD
FIRING:
(Cone 018) (Cone 018)
1. EYEBROWS
-
SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: 1
Part Eyebrow #1; 1 Part Eyebrow #2; Line Medium; Super Brow Brush or
Eyebrow Brush #1
-
TECHNIQUE:
Mix Media and China Paint to a creamy
consistency. The eyebrows on this
doll are painted in two distinctly different stroke patterns. The
left eyebrow is painted line upon line, with some of them crossing each
other. The right eyebrow is painted in a fan shape, starting from
outside edge and working in towards the nose. Examine
each individual photo of the right and left brows and then look at the full face photo for
exact placement of the brows.
2.
LIP SHADING
3. UPPER EYELID
SHADING
- SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: Dusky Lilac; Line Medium;
Medium
Shader
- TECHNIQUE:
Apply Area Medium to the upper eyelid. BE VERY
CAREFUL not to disturb your eyebrows. The eye shadow does not
extend up into the area of the eyebrows, but is placed in the crease of
the upper eyelid and blended to just a faint hint of color on the lid.
Refer to picture for exact placement
4. CHEEKS
-
SUPPLIES
AND BRUSHES REQUIRED: Cheek Blush Cake; Area
Medium; Small China Mop; Super Doll Sponge
-
TECHNIQUE:
Apply Area Medium to the cheek and beyond.
Carefully apply the cheek color to the cheek area with a clean sponge or
Stippler. Polish it with the China Mop, blending the
edges. to refer to
This second application of the cheek color is applied
over a smaller area than the first coloring. It is designed to
enhance the first application, providing more color to the
"apple" of the cheek, which is the fullest part of the
cheek. Be sure not to blush beyond the area covered by the
medium. This will prevent "stop lines" from occurring.
