These heads are painted with the same care and attention as if they were going to be made into dolls for Evelyn's own collection....because that IS why they were made!!! Evelyn has spent many years studying how to paint reproductions of antique dolls to museum standards. Countless hours of practice have resulted in work that is of the highest quality. If you click on the small photo, it will take you to a larger photo where you can examine with almost microscopic clarity, the quality of this work.
The antique version of this doll was originally made by Danel et Cie around 1890. The story of this company is most interesting, as they were sued by the Jumeau company for stealing the mold used to create this doll. Jumeau won his suit, and subsequently the doll was made by the Jumeau factory, and Danel et Cie went out of business. She is an interesting doll to research.
These heads will make into a finished doll of 20" in height. The head circumference is 11.25" and the eye size is 20mm Paperweight. The ears are pierced through the lobe. They fit onto Seeley's FB16JS (French) Composition Body. The heads are poured in Seeley's Lady White Porcelain and then the skin tones are applied in several washes in order to achieve the exact shade required. The features are then painted in ONE firing, to prevent over firing the all over wash. This technique requires great skill as it is difficult for most doll makers to paint the depth of color required for brows, lips and cheeks on one firing. Evelyn's training in china painting on plates comes in very handy when trying to achieve such density in one firing.

HEAD ONE:
While working with the photos of this head, I noticed a slight scratch in the lobe of the Right Ear. This in no way interferes with the integrity or the value of the head. It will no longer show when you place an earring on the ear. I only point it out because I like to make sure that anyone who purchases one of my heads is aware of anything different about them, and won't feel concerned when they receive the head.
